The Union of the Comoros, an island country located in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa, has officially confirmed its participation in Expo 2027 Belgrade, which will take place from May 15 to August 15, 2027, under the theme “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All.”The Union of the Comoros, one of 119 countries participating in Expo 2027, gained its independence from France in 1975 and made its debut at the International Exhibition at Expo 1998 in Lisbon. It became a member of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) in 2007 and, during Expo 2020 Dubai, won a bronze award for theme interpretation.“The confirmation of the Union of the Comoros’ participation in Expo 2027 is further proof of the truly universal character of the first International Exhibition organized in the Western Balkans. In two years, Belgrade will become a global hub of culture and sport – a dynamic and playful center of creativity and innovation. We look forward to welcoming our friends from the East Coast of Africa, confident that they will bring with them a unique spirit from the distant Indian Ocean,” said Danilo Jerinić, CEO of Expo 2027 Belgrade.Serbia and the Comoros established bilateral diplomatic relations in 1976, and reciprocal visits by high-level officials took place in 2018. A bilateral cooperation agreement in the fields of education and culture was signed in 1984, and the participation of this African island country in Expo 2027 will represent another opportunity to strengthen the bonds of friendship between the two countries.More than 120 countries, international organizations, and companies are expected to take part in Expo 2027 Belgrade, and the Serbian capital is expected to welcome more than four million visitors from Serbia and around the world.
