Georgia, located on the Black Sea coast at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, has officially confirmed its participation in the Expo 2027 Belgrade. The event will occur from May 15 to August 15, 2027, under the theme “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All.”Georgia debuted at the International Exhibitions at Expo 2000 in Hanover and has since been a regular participant in both World and Specialised Expos. The country became a member of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) in 2008.This year marks the 30th anniversary of official diplomatic relations between Serbia and Georgia, ties that have traditionally been friendly and strong, rooted in religious, cultural, and historical closeness. Expo 2027 Belgrade will be a great opportunity to strengthen and deepen the Serbian-Georgian relationship, which dates back to the early 20th century.“We are delighted to have received the confirmation of Georgia’s participation in Expo 2027, as we know that we will be welcoming our friends who will undoubtedly present a compelling interpretation of our exhibition’s central theme. The number of participants continues to grow, and excitement is mounting as we approach our target of 120 participating countries set to arrive in Serbia in less than two years,“ said Dušan Borovčanin, CEO of Expo 2027 LLC, Belgrade.Borovčanin expressed his gratitude to friendly Georgia for confirming its participation, and extended an invitation to all countries that have not yet done so to join and be part of Expo 2027 – the most important international event of the year.Integral to Georgia’s cultural identity are traditional games such as Lelo burti, often compared to rugby for its dynamic nature, and Chidaoba, a form of Georgian wrestling that combines elements of athletics and music and is currently inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The most popular social game in Georgia is Nardi, similar to backgammon, which requires strategic thinking.Traditional dances such as Kartuli, Khorumi, Acharuli, Samaia, and Osuri represent different facets of social life, from the romantic courtship expressed in the Kartuli dance to the heroic warrior spirit portrayed in Khorumi.Football is the most popular sport in Georgia. The country’s most renowned footballer at the moment is Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, a star player for French club Paris Saint-Germain, who recently won the UEFA Champions League and became a European champion. Besides football, Georgia is also known for wrestling, a sport deeply rooted in its culture. This year, the Georgian judo team won the world team championship, and multiple world armwrestling champion Levan Saginashvili once again became the number one armwrestler in the world at the championships held in Chicago. Georgia is also known for rugby, which is considered a national sport, and chess, in which the country boasts many grandmasters.Expo 2027 Belgrade will be the first International Exhibition in the Western Balkans. It is expected to attract more than four million visitors from Serbia, the region, and around the globe.
